Phil Robertson Of “Duck Dynasty” Found Out He Has A 45-Year-Old Daughter From An Affair

The Duck Dynasty family (remember them?) is back in the news for reasons other than being homophobic. They’ve got a new member. But this isn’t a newborn baby. It’s a 45-year-old woman. It seems that Duck Commander, Phil Robertson, had a secret baby with a woman he cheated on his wife with and never knew about it. So it seems cheaters who don’t know about their children for 45 years are totally cool in Jesus’ eyes but the gays will absolutely go to Hell.

People says that on the family’s podcast/YouTube show Unashamed With Phil Robertson, the family revealed for the first time that Phil had a secret lovechild. Phil has four sons, Al, Jase, Jep, and Willie, with his wife Kay AKA Miss Kay who he’s been married to since 1966. So the brothers found it fascinating when a woman, who was born in the 1970s, contacted them suggesting she was their sister. The woman, Phyliss, (Really? The lady version of Phil?) sent a letter to brother Al:

“So basically, it was from a woman who said that by a DNA search, she thinks that dad might be her dad,” Al said, adding that he had “dismissed” the letter at first because the woman’s birthday was after the time Phil had become a Christian in the 1970s.

Phil has said that once he found Jesus, he stopped his cheating slut ways. So Al thought there was no way his dad could have fathered a baby while being a devoted child of God and all. But when other brothers got letters too, they decided to actually look into it:

“Well once we get into that and start looking at it a little more deeply, I’m like, “Oh woah, woah… there might be something to this,”” Al said.

Al continued to say that he didn’t want to bring up Phyliss’ letter right away to Phil in case it wasn’t true.

“We both concluded, this is not one of those frivolous things we’ve got,” added Jase, who also received a letter from the woman.

“We had to pursue it,” Al agreed.

“I started thinking, there’s a 45-year-old woman out there who doesn’t know who her dad is, and she’s looking,” Al said. “And I thought, even if it’s not dad, she needs to know it’s not dad.”

They talked to their parents and Phil gave his DNA to test. There was a “99.9 percent match.” Phil said he wanted to meet the daughter he never knew and paraphrased Romans 8:28 from the Bible to explain away his actions:

“We know that in all things–in all things–even sin, God works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose.”

Since then, everyone in the family has met Phyliss, and Duck Dynasty fans can expect to meet her on a podcast episode. Phil is happy about it and somehow thinks 45 years isn’t “very long” but… it is. And Jep is excited to have a sister because he always wanted one growing up.

“It’s a pretty cool explanation of redemption, reconciliation, love,” the Robertson patriarch said. “As it turns out, 45 years, you have a daughter that you don’t know about, and she has a father she doesn’t know about. 45 years that doesn’t sound like very long but you say, that’s a while. So finally, after all those years, we come together.”

“It was super awesome, I was so excited,” Jep said of the news, adding that he always wished he had a sister growing up in a family of boys. “It was like a dream come true.”

I am disappointed in the Duck Dynasty family. I mean, revealing they have a secret family member on a podcast?! That is not very on-brand for them. Clearly, the only trashy way to do this was to have Maury Povich shout in Phil’s face, “You are the father!” We were robbed of that moment and I’m not happy about it.
