Jimmy Fallon Apologized For Doing Blackface On “Saturday Night Live”

I imagine Jimmy Fallon had a pretty bad day yesterday waking up to see himself in full blackface splashed all over Twitter. But hey, at least he got to wake up, so things could be worse. Not everyone is so lucky. And even though the hashtag #jimmyfallonisoverparty was trending, Jimmy proved he’s still got some fight left in him because he issued an apology addressing the re-resurfaced video of him doing blackface while impersonating Chris Rock in a SNL skit from 2000. You know, back when nobody knew it was wrong or harmful for white people to darken their skin for a cheap laugh at the expense of Black people’s dignity and humanity. Just kidding, Megyns, we’ve always known!

After Jamie Foxx defended Jimmy saying it wasn’t blackface since he was doing an impression of Chris Rock, Jimmy apologized on Twitter for his clown makeup being many, many shades too dark that day.

Given the current climate and the fact that, as far as we know, Jimmy has never called the cops on himself after seeing an aggressive looking Black man telling him hack jokes about the difference between black people and white people when he looked in the mirror, I can see why Jimmy finally took the time to address this head-on now, instead of ignoring it as we’ve all done for the past 20 years. Besides, the only people who seem to be super invested in The Downfall Of Known Racist Jimmy “KKK” Fallon, are people who are still obsessed with the movie White Chicks. The “Her?” of movies!

I actually like this apology because it deflects many of the bad faith, “what about?” arguments people are still clinging to around this topic. He did it, it was a mistake, he’s sorry, moving on. I’m sure Jimmy’s eager to forget about the time Chris Rock and Lorne Michaels told him it would be hilarious if he did his Chris impression, which I’m sure killed at parties while wearing blackface. I have a feeling Jimmy would do just about anything to make people like him.
