Alicia Silverstone Went On A Disposable Cup Crusade Against Starbucks
Even staunch environmentalist Super Vegans are sometimes in too much of a hurry to boil water, grind fair trade beans, and wait for their coffee to drip through a non-bleached reusable filter. When time is more important than your morals, you might have to hold your nose and hit up your local coffee shop and ask them to fill up your reusable mug with an unsweetened oat milk latte. Or, if you’re Alicia Silverstone, you go straight to Starbucks and then complain when the mega chain can’t meet your environmental standards. Apparently, Alicia recently had a rough go of it when her trip to Starbucks ended in tears (mother nature’s). Despite bringing her own mug, the Starbucks she visited used a disposable cup to pour her coffee into it. So Alicia #TookToTwitter, describing the cup carnage she witnessed as “depressing”. And don’t get her started on the non-dairy milk situation. Seriously, please DO NOT GET HER STARTED. #TooLate.
Imagine going into a slaughterhouse thinking it was an animal sanctuary. That’s what it must have been like for Alicia walking into a Starbucks and seeing that every single patron in the place had their lips around a cardboard carcass.
Depressing! Just brought my reusable mug to @Starbucks &saw staff use a disposable cup, pour it into my mug, then toss the disposable cup. Totally defeats the purpose of trying 2 reduce waste. Then I looked around to see so many people sitting @ the cafe all w disposables! Ugh.

My previous theory that Alicia’s busy morning was the only thing that caused her to go to Starbucks in the first place was proven wrong when she further complained about having to pay more for non-dairy milk substitutes. Imagine my shock when I realized Alicia had been to a Starbucks before. Multiple times!
Also!I'm always frustrated by extra charges for non-dairy milk. Y should we be penalized 4 making the eco-choice? It would be amazing for @Starbucks to lead the way &consider enviro externalities associated w the dairy industry by having dairy cost + or at least = plantmilk fees.

A few folks jumped in to offer Alicia some economic and environmental perspective on the extra pocket change she’s spending for non-dairy milk.
Almond milk is the absolute worst for our environment, almonds are destroying California – how do you not know this? Soy milk slightly better, but still uses a lot of fresh water to process. Cattle is bad because their slaughter for beef creates high demand, but not cuz of milk

It’s amazing how things that cost more to make cost more to consume. The nerve of Starbucks!
Also, when I need a different vehicle, Cadillac absolutely should sell an Escalade to me for the price of a Ford Ecosport. It’s the environmental thing for them to do!

Undeterred, Alicia had one final, small request for the largest coffee chain in the world.
. @starbucks one more thing – can you please get unsweetened oat milk at all your locations? ❤️🙏

And one more thing, can you please have all of your employees sign a vegan compliance pact in which they all agree not to touch, handle, consume, or look at any animal products while in your employ? *fart emoji, prayer hands emoji.
