Rebel Wilson Has Been Blocking Her Critics On Twitter
Rebel Wilson has done such a bad job managing her latest publicity crisis that’s she’s inspired her own hashtag on Twitter. If you can’t post to #RebelWilsonBlockedMe, are you even trying? Rebel’s troubles began when she appeared on the Halloween episode of Ellen. She was there to talk about her upcoming romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic . Rebel excitedly noted that she was “first plus-size woman’ to play the lead in a romantic comedy”, which is not true.
Even though Rebel has been known to tell a fib or two, I wouldn’t call that a straight-up lie, maybe it was more of an oversight. Quite a few folks on Twitter, many of them black women and women of color, kindly reminded Rebel that Queen Latifah, Mo’nique and Ricki Lake had all been in rom-coms before her. And here’s where Rebel could have said, “point taken, I misspoke” but that’s not how Rebel rolls. Instead she doubled-down, and got to blocking the haters/information sharers.
Here’s Rebel’s first response to somebody bringing up the fact that Mo’Nique and Queen Latifah had both starred in rom-coms before her.
Hey girl! Yeah I of course know of these movies but it was questionable as to whether: 1. Technically those actresses were plus size when filming those movies or 2. Technically those films are catorgorized/billed as a studio rom-com with a sole lead. So there’s a slight grey area

Rebel, Rebel. How are you so bad at this?! Where is this alleged grey area where you aren’t sure if a Fox Searchlight movie called Phat Girlz starring Mo’nique isn’t a rom-com starring a plus-size woman? Even Mo’nique herself had to chime in on that one.
Hey my sweet sister. Let’s please not allow this business to erase our talent with giving grey areas and technicalities. Take a moment and know the history. DON’T BE A PART OF ERASING IT. I wish you the best.

Rebel responded to Mo’Nique later.
Hi Monique, it was never my intention to erase anyone else’s achievements and I adore you and Queen Latifah so so much x I support all plus size ladies and everything positive we are doing together ❤️

After that, she really should have just sat there and ate her rice, but she didn’t. She started blocking people instead.
I shared my honest & respectful thoughts on Rebel Wilson’s erasure of iconic plus sized women before her.
Her blocking a fellow plus woman in this industry is a reminder that she doesn’t want to acknowledge her plus peers but rather ignore them entirely. pic.twitter.com/icUvY9QrCR

And folks started seeing a pattern in who she chose to block…
Rebel Wilson’s block list is the closest we’re ever going to get to an official roster for black Twitter

And who she chose to respond to…
Great points honey, thank you x will address when promoting the film in proper forums. I’m all about supporting plus size women and I work so hard to do so. I never want to disrespect anyone ❤️

Well, at least Rebel can now brag that she’s the first plus-sized actress to ever have a hashtag dedicated to her to be gleefully worn as a badge of honor.
