NOT TRUE! My mother dropped out in the 9th grade, and was a RN & a meat cutter/butcher. She made more money per hour than most people I know. I dropped out after finishing 10th grade and got my GED at 15yrs old.. I am now a book keeper/ title clerk/ office manager at a HUGE RV dealership and I make 60k a year (which is more than ALL my friends that graduated and went to college). I think it depends on the person, and how much determination one has. My mother and I worked our asses off, but in the long run, it payed off. Yet again: You might have benefited from the work that someone has done in the past. That does not, in and of itself, mean that their philosophy is moral, sound and that anyone today has an obligation to support it. What feminists have done in the past (and I don't agree with everything they did) does not prove that Migrain isn't representative of at least a good part of the feminist movement. Down to brass tacks. Having benefited from something in the past does not, in any way, confer an obligation to support it now or in the future:
If a man joined the Army in the 1940s and 1950, fought, then got into college in the GI Bill, which enabled him to get into the middle classes, that means he has benefited from war. Does that mean he has any obligation to support current or potential wars because he has benefited from it?
I'm only here because ancestors of mine fled the Franco-Prussian wars to Ireland. Since I've benefited from it in the most fundamental way, does that mean I have to support war?
I've recently discovered that a colleague of mine (who's into genealogy) is only here because some of his ancestors were Hugeunots who fled to Ireland from persecution in France. Since he's benefited in that way from religious persecution, does he have an obligation to support it now?
