Joshua Jackson Believes That Affairs Can Be Forgiven

Joshua Jackson spent a decade-long relationship with his ex Diane Kruger all while believing marriage and kids would give him the ultimate case of cooties, so they broke up (and yes, that Norman Reedus cheating drama had a lot to do with it too). Then, once he met his current wife, Jodie Turner-Smith, he began reconsidering the entire concept, and now they’re three years into a marriage with a daughter named Janie. So it’s safe to say Joshua has changed his outlook on marriage, yet he also says that if cheating occurs within the marriage it’s really not that big of a deal. That’s what he said during an interview with The Sunday Times, anyway.

Before you go thinking Joshua is trying to prepare Jodie for a conversation that might end with a frying pan to the side of his face, just know this is all part of his press tour for the upcoming Fatal Attraction reboot on Paramount+. Yes, I know. Why the hell are they touching that classic? Because nothing is sacred anymore, and now they’ve got Pacey Witter taking on the role of Dan Gallagher, AKA the dumbest cheater with the worst taste in sidepieces. We all know in Fatal Attraction, Dan was the real villain as his wife sat home with the kid while he was out courting a bunny boiler. Well, apparently, Joshua believes infidelity isn’t a total marriage killer, telling The Sunday Times:

“I think an affair can be forgiven. We’re all grown-ups. No one wants to be cheated on and there is massive repair to be done. Affairs aren’t about the partner, they’re about the person who has transgressed. It’s not purely about the sex. There’s a deeper violation.”

Speaking of affairs, Joshua went on to say that if he met Jodie earlier, they probably would’ve just had a “torrid affair” since he wasn’t ready for marriage and kids until he got older.

“Partially it’s age. I’m old enough to be able to do this. Partially it’s about finding somebody in the right moment of life. If we had met five years earlier we probably would have had a torrid affair, but all the rest of this stuff, I was just not ready. I didn’t think I ever wanted to get married.”

“In the beginning we did this dance with each other like, ‘Oh, this is casual.’ Except that we’d spend every moment together and find reasons to be in other cities together at the same time.” She proposed to him during a New Year’s Eve holiday in Nicaragua. “I don’t know if she planned it or if it was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but out popped a proposal I was not expecting and the organic and instinctive answer was yes. Six months later she was pregnant and we were on our way. And now we have this beautiful baby who is literally the manifestation of that love. It is impossible for me to look into the face of my child without feeling love for my wife.” Indeed, Jackson is besotted with fatherhood. “It has changed me in every single possible way,” he says.

That’s sweet, but Jodie should still keep at least one side-eye on Joshua. I mean, he starred in a show called The Affair, is now starring in a Fatal Attraction series, and thinks cheating can be forgiven. Although, Jodie may already have TWO side-eyes on Joshua after those pictures of him kissing a “mystery woman” came out a few years ago.
