Two Lawsuits From Travis Scott’s Astroworld Tragedy Have Settled For Undisclosed Amounts

On November 5, 2021, Travis Scott’s set at Astroworld turned into a horrifying disaster as the crowd surged toward the stage. 10 people lost their lives. The youngest victim was 9 years old. People criticized how Travis didn’t stop the show and even brought out Drake (who was also named in some lawsuits) afterward. And his baby mama and her sister, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, were also called out for basically being whisked to safety, reportedly past people’s bodies by guards while medics couldn’t access victims. While billions of dollars worth of lawsuits were lobbed at Travis and Live Nation and more, the blame was also passed around like a game of hot potato. But a coroner report confirmed that all 10 deaths from the event were from “compression asphyxia.” And two of those lawsuits have been settled.

The family of the 21-year-old victim, Axel Acosta, announced the settlement of their wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation and Travis, via Uproxx:

…His family’s legal counsel, Houston lawyer Tony Buzbee, announced the settlement — thought to be one of the first among the nearly 300 suits stemming from the incident — today in a press release and on Instagram.

In it, the lawyer said that the terms of the settlement were “confidential” and wrote, “The Buzbee Law Firm announced today that the claims brought by the family of Axel Acosta against Travis Scott, Live Nation, and others involved in the Astroworld tragedy have settled. Victim Axel Acosta was a beloved son, brother, and student. He was kind and loving. He is greatly missed. Please keep his family in your prayers.”

Here’s the Instagram announcement:

Of course, Live Nation doesn’t want anyone to know how much they had to cough up. But when the family first filed a lawsuit last year, they were joined by 125 other concert-goers who asked for $750 million. But that’s not all, as Uproxx also says that the family of 16-year-old Brianna Rodriguez also settled their lawsuit. That’s two down and, uh, nearly 300 more to go. And USA Today says that attorneys for Brianna’s family also gave a statement:

“Brianna Rodriguez was deeply loved and is terribly missed by her parents, her entire and extended family, her friends, and by her peers at Heights High School. Brianna’s memory will forever live within those whose lives she touched and through the nonprofit organization, Dancing Through Bri, which has been created to provide scholarships to college-bound dancers and athletes.”

Meanwhile, Ted Anastasiou, a rep for Travis, said that no members of Travis’ team participated in the lawsuit settlement discussions. …Okay, and…?

Well, I think he should expect to get dumped by Kylie any minute now. Kris Jenner is probably screech-whispering to her daughter now through her blood-filled scrying bowl like: “You need to dump him, Kylie–he’s going to be poor after all this.”
