The “Frasier” Revival Is Actually Happening

Last February, Paramount+ announced that they were developing a Frasier revival, and Kelsey Grammer had signed on to star and produce. A year-and-a-half later, and Deadline is reporting the reboot has been officially picked up for series. Dr. Frasier Crane will be in a new city with new characters. So now Frasier has jumped from Boston to Seattle to… wait, where is this shit set? Please tell me it’s a fish-out-of-water story set in the Deep South. “You want a 1945 Chateau Petrus? Uhhh, this is MAGA country, Doc!” Actually, maybe that’s a little on-the-nose, considering Kelsey Grammer’s real-life politics…

Cast members like David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin, and Jane Leeves aren’t expected to be series regulars, but Deadline writes they “could make guest appearances.” Kinda like how Cheers characters popped up on Frasier from time to time. I guess that’s one way to deal with the death of the late, great John Mahoney. Replace everyone!

The first season of the show will likely have ten episodes and will be written by Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother… huh) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces). Fun fact about Joe: he and Kelsey’s Grammernet NH Productions will produce with CBS Studios. In July, Kelsey told Deadline:

…Grammer confirmed in an interview that they were “in the final stages of the final script for the first episode” of the followup series, adding, “I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so I’m happy.”

I gotta say, I was kinda pumped for a Frasier reboot, but, without David Hyde Pierce as Niles, I’m just not interested. Horny little Niles was the lifeblood of that show. In fact, I think I’d prefer a Niles and Daphne spinoff to a Frasier one. Let’s see… they’ve relocated to the Seattle burbs (Seattle’s got burbs, right?), and Niles is living a double-life on the DL. You guessed it, he’s a late-in-life bisexual who has fallen madly in love with a male patient. OK, maybe this is less “TV show” and more “my own personal erotic fan fiction.”
