Zac Efron Says The Fall That Broke His Jaw Nearly Killed Him
Last year, 34-year-old Zac Efron popped back up on the scene and everybody looked over at him like, “Um… when did Rob Lowe de-age himself?” because Zac’s jaw was looking a little… different. While we may have been thinking it was due to some kind of jaw procedure that only rich people would ever participate in, he claimed that it was actually the result of an accident. Zac is talking a bit more about that accident and apparently, it almost killed him. This is interesting because, after the alleged incident, Zac then went on to do a show called Killing Zac Efron so he must have got a taste for the near-death experience!
Now, I’m a bit confused by this storyline. Zac told Men’s Health that years ago, this accident occurred while he was running in his house in socks, he then slipped and collided with a granite fountain and cracked shit up. However, Entertainment Tonight describes the “2013” accident as Zac slipping in a puddle near the entrance of his home. Hmm… So Zac is out and about promoting his new film, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, which also stars Bill Murray and Russell Crowe. It comes out on Apple TV+ on September 30 and is about a man who leaves New York in 1967 to go bring his childhood friends who are in the Army some beer while they’re fighting in Vietnam. Zac spoke with ET while at the Toronto International Film Festival and talked about how working with the actors on the film was a “dream come true”:
“Working with Bill Murray and Russell Crowe, it’s a dream come true,” Efron gushed. “When you meet somebody like that, and you’re filming a movie, and you’re sort of in the process already, you just start working together, and there’s something that really great actors do that Bill and Russell did, that was just — they are so present and care so much about this craft, that they’ve mastered so many different aspects of filmmaking. They become more than your co-star.”
“They help you through tapes, they have ideas — they’re very aware of their presence on camera, characters and story. It’s so fun to work with those people, like you said, sort of absorb some of the magic, you just feel like, “That’s what I want to be when I grow up.””
And since this is Hollywood, we aren’t just going to talk about movies and in fact, we’re more interested in Zac’s jaw. And he touched on #JawGate saying that he almost died and he found out about the surgery rumors through his mom:
“My mom told me. I never really read the internet, so, I don’t really care,” Efron said about rumors that he altered his face with surgery… While Efron called the plastic surgery rumors “funny,” he said the accident almost killed him.
“It was funny,” he admitted. “It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.”
Whatever the case may be, I guess we know what story Khloé Kardashian will come up with the next time she shows up with a new facial tune-up. She’ll be like: “Oh, True pushed me, and I broke my face. I had to get a new one–it was so tragic.”
