Even The Twitter Account For A Previous Jane Austen Movie Adaptation Is Getting In On Roasting Netflix’s “Persuasion”

Last week, Netflix released their movie version of Jane Austen‘s novel Persuasion. But well, Netflix’s version is sort of hip, and tongue-in-cheek, and the star, Dakota Johnson, breaks the fourth wall throughout. And so far, people seem to be hating it. Well, well, well! Looks like Emily In Paris isn’t the most insufferable brunette on Netflix anymore!

Persuasion also stars the hotties, Cosmo Jarvis and Henry Golding. Cosmo plays the ex of Dakota’s character Anne, who she left because her family didn’t approve of him but he returns to town as a Naval Captain. And Henry is the rich suitor who is DTM (down to marry). But somehow, all the man-candy love-triangle goodness is not enough to satiate the people when put up against the movie’s cringy dialogue. People complained about the movie using modern terms that Jane Austen had never even heard of in some attempt to be cool and different. It currently has a 31% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes (and a 67% audience rating. Dakota, get off the computer, and stop giving your own movie 100% on Rotten Tomatoes!). The movie is apparently so bad that the account for another Jane Austen film adaptation–2016’s Love & Friendship starring Kate Beckinsale–decided to hop back onto social media after a year of inactivity to shit on Netflix’s Persuasion:

They also retweeted this Bennifer reference:

And the rest of Twitter has been going at it too:

Oh lord, I hate Twitter for giving Jennifer Affleck ideas. You know she loves a chance to grab attention! And with the love of her life, Ben Affleck?! She’s probably already going over to another streamer to pitch her and Ben in yet another modern version of Persuasion, this time based on their own actual love story. And Dakota Johnson will probably sign on as executive producer so that she can ensure a Gigli Pt. 2 and her film version won’t go down as the worst one after all.
