Mo’Nique Is Finally Getting Her Netflix Comedy Special
Not too long ago, comedian Mo’Nique took a hiatus from comedy and went on a nationwide “Kiss My Ass” tour after calling out director Lee Daniels for having her blackballed and suing Netflix for racial and gender bias. But of these two side quests, the lawsuit against Netflix was Mo’s truest crusade after they offered her the peasant’s fee of $500,000 for a comedy special, which was peanuts compared to what fellow comedians Amy Schumer and Dave Chappelle were paid for theirs. Many believed Mo’ was acting like a diva, but she didn’t care about any of those opinions because opinions don’t pay bills. In April, Lee and Mo’Nique publicly made up and he announced she will star in his Netflix movie The Deliverance. And now that beef with Netflix is really behind Mo’Nique, because she’s doing a comedy special for them.
Complex reports that there’s no more bad blood between Mo’ and Netflix, primarily because they’ve provided her with a Band-Aid in the form of a huge check to stop the bleeding. Nothing heals wounds faster than cash, and although the amount they settled upon remains undisclosed it clearly was enough for Mo’ to let bygones be bygones as she moves forward with TWO upcoming projects for Netflix.
Mo’Nique, as well as Netflix, took to social media on Tuesday to break the news, posting a video in which the comedian made light of the recent suit she settled with the streaming giant.
“Can y’all believe this shit? I done came home to Netflix,” she said in the clip. “I’m so excited to share that I’ll be shooting my first Netflix comedy special.”
Mo’Nique went on to mention that she’s joining forces with Precious director Lee Daniels for a forthcoming Netflix film titled The Deliverance. “You won’t want to miss either of them, so stay tuned,” she said. “And thank y’all, my sweet babies. I love us, for real.”
The Deliverance will also star Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis, Miss Lawrence, and Omar Epps.

I, for one, am glad she’s getting what she wants because if she didn’t we would STILL be hearing about this drama for many more years. At least this way she’ll get paid to do what she does best; talk shit. Hopefully, they give her everything she asks for in her rider for the comedy special, or we can look forward to an IG Live video where she goes on and on about how there aren’t enough green M&Ms in her dressing room. You know Mo’ will start a fight in an empty room if necessary.
