Mo’Nique Is Suing Netflix For Discrimination

TMZ says Mo’Nique is legally going after Netflix. After they low-balled her, offering a measly $500,000 for a Netflix comedy special, she called for a boycott of their organization citing racism and discrimination and such. Well, she’s not just whining about it on The View, she’s taking it to the courts and has sued Netflix for what she calls systemic discrimination. Considering the influence they have on society, Netflix has a lot to answer for.

Oscar-winner, Mo’Nique is mad that Netflix is not fair and equal like the rest of the world. She claims that Netflix is participating in “race-based discrimination based on its negotiations with her for a comedy special. One example that Mo’Nique has brought up many times is Amy Schumer–who was offered $11 million and negotiated up to $13 million for her comedy special. That is 26 times the amount they offered Mo’Nique. Mo’Nique turned them down and then dragged them all over the place, and as Lee Daniels knows, she will not shut up about something once she starts.

The lawsuit says that Netflix has “a severe lack of diversity.” The suit claims this contributes to “discriminatory practices” and specifically claims that one Netflix executive–the Chief Communications Officer–dropped the N-word during a meeting with 60 other people last year. But Mo’Nique was not present for that meeting so how she knows is beyond me.

But she has more tea. She also says that Kevin Spacey said the N-word during filming of House of Cards and suffered no consequences. He allegedly said:

“I don’t want n*ggers on my set anymore.”

How she knows this, again, I’m not sure.

And Mo’Nique even dragged The Crown into it. She states that lead actress Claire Foy was paid pennies compared to the lead male Matt Smith. She says Netflix only fixed their gender pay-gap after people got mad at them publicly. Which isn’t not true

Mo’Nique wants unspecified damages (probably $13 million if she’s into poetic justice) and an injunction to force the company into changing their “discriminatory policies”. Mo’Nique will hold a grudge forever, so Netflix needs to figure out if it’s better to pay up or face the wrath of Mo’Nique. If Mo’Nique is bold enough to take on Oprah, Queen of the World, then God help you, Netflix.

UPDATE: Netflix gave out this statement saying they will see Mo’Nique in court!

“We care deeply about inclusion, equity, and diversity and take any accusations of discrimination very seriously. We believe our opening offer to Mo’Nique was fair — which is why we will be fighting this lawsuit.”
