Open Post: Hosted By Mariah Carey Accidently Texting Shawn Mendes
Move over, Camilla Cabello! Shawn Mendes has found a new way get media attention. And it’s with the help of the Elusive Chanteuse herself, Mariah Carey! I don’t know what you think but that’s a hell of a step up! The two aren’t dating but apparently, they’re text buddies. Mariah recently shared a screenshot on Twitter of a silly mix-up where she mistakenly texted Shawn Mendes instead of her cousin Shawn M. I dunno how much Mendes’s camp paid for this exposure IF they paid for this exposure, but it’s not a bad way to spend a grand or two!
Mariah is a well-known Twitter user and explained to her followers how the accidental text exchange happened. via People:
The “We Belong Together” singer, 52, shared a text message exchange between herself and Shawn Mendes on Twitter Friday, where she detailed that she accidentally messaged the “In My Blood” crooner instead of her cousin with the same name and last initial.
“My cousin Shawn M and I have this silly joke where we tell each other Happy Thanksgiving on St. Patrick’s Day,” Carey tweeted alongside an image of the text thread. “@ShawnMendes found out about it today.. sorry Shawn!!”
In the text exchange, Carey wrote “Happy thanksgiving” alongside a leaf emoji, before realizing her mistake and adding, “Wrong Shawn. Sorry. Also, I do realize it is NOT Thanksgiving. Haha.”
In response, Mendes, 23, wrote back: “hahahaha that’s okay I figured it was an inside joke ❤️❤️.”

It’s so gracious of Mariah to feature an up-and-coming singer on her social media! This isn’t actually the first time that Shawn and Mariah have had a moment. Last year, Shawn shared one of his usual thirst traps on Instagram and referenced the leader of the lambs with the caption “Grateful 💙 The sun, coffee, my health, my family, old Mariah Carey songs, music, humans!!!”. Mariah reciprocated by creating a genuinely funny post mimicking Shawn’s. She DOES have a sense of humor!
Now that Shawn has a few moments with Mariah, he can take a break with the thirst traps. It’s much easier (and safer) to engage in Twitter threads with your celebrity friends than it is to trip and fall into a canyon!
