Behold, The Winners Of The BAFTAs And The Critics Choice Awards

March 14, 2022 / Posted by:

Last night, the BAFTAs and the Critics Choice Awards both took place. The BAFTAs happened in London and the Critics Choice Awards happened in Los Angeles. And both of them shut out Lady Gaga and Kristen Stewart. Much like with the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards, Jessica Chastain swooped in from behind and took home a Best Actress win for Eyes of Tammy Faye. But unlike with the SAGs, Power of the Dog is back on top after last night and Jane Campion took home tons of awards for that gayish cowboy movie that Sam Elliott hates so much and triggered their feud.

The 75th British Academy of Film Awards was held at London’s Royal Albert Hall and the ceremony went in-person after going virtual last year. The BAFTAs love Dune which won five awards including Outstanding Original Score, Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Production Design, Outstanding Sound, and Outstanding Special Effects. Power of the Dog won Outstanding Film and Jane took home Outstanding Director. Will Smith continued to rule awards season by winning Outstanding Lead Actor for King Richard, and Joanna Scanlan won Outstanding Lead Actress for After Love. Troy Kotsur won Outstanding Support Actor for CODA and Ariana DeBose won Outstanding Supporting Actress for West Side Story.

And following the BAFTAs, came the Critics Choice Awards, which were hosted by Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer. Since several nominees were in London for the BAFTAs, the ceremony took place at the Los Angeles Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel and London’s Savoy Hotel. Will, Troy, and Ariana all repeated their BAFTA wins by winning their category at the CCAs. Jessica Chastain won Best Actress at the CCAs for The Eyes Of Tammy Faye. Jane Campion picked up more awards at the CCAs because Power of the Dog won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The CCAs also honored TV people. Succession won Best Drama Series, Ted Lasso won Best Comedy Series, Lee Jung-jae won Best Actor in a Drama Series for Squid Game, Melanie Lynskey won Best Actress in a Drama Series for Yellowjackets, and Jason Sudeikis and Jean Smart won Best Actor in a Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Ted Lasso and Hacks.

The Oscars are in a couple of weeks on March 27. And Will Smith, Troy Kotsur, and Ariana DeBose should probably practice holding that gold dude while giving their speech. Jessica Chastain should probably practice too since she’s a Best Actress frontrunner after picking up the SAG Award and Critics Choice Award. And since Kristen Stewart’s Oscar chances are slipping away, she should practice sitting back and saying, “You know what, good for Jessica, I didn’t want that shit anyway!
