Kristen Stewart Doesn’t “Give A Shit” About The Oscar Talk Around Her Performance In “Spencer”

Lady Gaga just had an aneurysm because Kristen Stewart–who is getting “Oscar buzz” for playing Princess Diana in the movie Spencer–said in a recent Variety podcast that she doesn’t “give a shit” about getting an Oscar. Gaga is probably writing a letter to the Academy now like: “Okay, so she’s taken her name out of the running–cross her off the list–it’s only fair.”

Gaga can actually take a pause because Kristen was mostly joking when she said that. Newly engaged Kristen was on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast and talked about–what else–the award circuit. They talked about a bunch of stuff, like her upcoming directorial debut, The Chronology of Water, a film based on the memoir from Lidia Yuknavitch which according to IMDB “focuses on her bisexuality, her addiction issues, and her involvement with the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement opposing Israeli oppression of Palestine.” Kristen will also next be seen in Crimes of the Future, directed by David Cronenberg, which is a remake of David’s 1970 science fiction film of the same name.

But obviously, the topic of the moment is Kristen possibly becoming Academy Award-nominee Kristen Stewart thanks to her waify and sad Princess Diana in Spencer. Many critics are predicting that she will get her first Oscar nomination for her performance. I know, it’s shocking that she wasn’t nominated for the Twilight movies. Kristen previously told The New Yorker that Oscar campaigning is embarrassing. That’s one way to call out Leonardo DiCaprio without calling out Leonardo DiCaprio.

“I’ve never been in the running, if you want to put it like that. I do not want to seem like an ass, but it’s so embarrassing and so tiring. It is highly political. You have to go talk to people. You feel like you’re a diplomat.”

But The New Yorker notes that KStew did do a Q&A with Academy members after a screening of Spencer. And while on Variety’s podcast, she was asked about possibly getting her first Oscar nomination, and she jokingly said, “I don’t give a shit.” And she went on:

“The Oscars are such a funny thing. There are so many incredible movies and performances that barely get seen. It definitely says something about where we’re at as a cumulative presence–what we’re looking at, what we care about. I really appreciate that something that I was involved in, has ignited such a large conversation. We don’t make movies to not connect with each other.”

I mean, Kristen’s laissez-faire attitude with the Oscars makes more sense once you remember that Guy Fieri agreed to officiate her wedding. How do you get excited for anything once your life peaks like that?
