Dior Suspends Their Collaboration With Travis Scott

Travis Scott has once again found himself on the receiving end of a “Don’t call us, we’ll…maybe call you after all this blows over” situation. Iconic fashion house Dior had been collaborating on a project with Travis’ Cactus Jack brand, which likely would have spelled $$$ for both of them upon its release. But, we don’t know if that collaboration will ever see the light of day. At the very least, we won’t see it any time soon, because Dior has made the announcement that they’ve suspended the project in the wake of the Astroworld Music Fest tragedy.

November 5th’s Astroworld tragedy left ten people dead (the youngest victim being a 9-year-old boy) and hundreds injured in a massive crowd surge. Travis has denied he’s responsible for any of the deaths, and Live Nation allegedly withheld payment from part-time concert staff unless they signed a new 11th-hour contract saying they wouldn’t be covered for any injuries sustained. It’s a messy situation that nobody wants to be associated with unless they have to. Travis is no longer headlining Coachella 2022’s lineup in April. Nike postponed a Cactus Jack sneaker release. Anheuser-Busch has discontinued production on their Cactus Jack-branded line of hard seltzers, called CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer. And now Dior is putting all those Cactus Jack clothes into the back of the closet. Dior released the following statement to Women’s Wear Daily, in which they confirmed that they’re pulling the line for now.

“Out of respect for everyone affected by the tragic events at Astroworld, Dior has decided to postpone indefinitely the launch of products from the Cactus Jack collaboration originally intended to be included in its Summer 2022 collection,” the company said in a statement issued exclusively to WWD. Scott’s team told WWD on Tuesday that he and Dior mutually decided to postpone the collection’s January launch.

Here’s an older promo video of Travis pretending like he’s actually the one sewing the Cactus Jack Dior Summer 2022 line. The line was unveiled in June of 2021, but all hypebeasts can do now is just look at the clothing they can’t buy.

It’s an indefinite hiatus, which means that Cactus Jack Dior could one day be dropped on the internet for purchase. But, in all likelihood, Dior is probably waiting to see what kind of results are given after the investigation that was recently launched. About a week ago, the House Oversight and Reform Committee launched a probe into Live Nation over the Astroworld tragedy. Live Nation confirmed the investigation and said they’re cooperating. via WWD:

“We are assisting local authorities in their investigation and will of course share information with the Committee as well. Safety is core to live events and Live Nation engages in detailed security planning in coordination with local stakeholders including law enforcement, fire and EMT professionals. We are heartbroken by the events at Astroworld and our deepest sympathies go out to the families and friends of the victims.”

Travis Scott hasn’t said anything about Dior putting his Cactus Jack collab on ice. But let’s face it, he’s probably stressing the fuck out about it. Travis has been named in several lawsuits, including one for $2 billion. Now is the best time for Travis to be hocking high-end luxury wear. It takes a lot of overpriced paint splatter t-shirts to pay that increasingly large mountain of legal bills.
