Dr. Oz is Officially Running For Senate In Pennsylvania

For entirely too long, we were teased with the idea of Matthew McConaughey running for Governor of Texas, a reality that we have thankfully been spared of at this time. But this situation has been given the old Twilight Zone jerk-around switcheroo. Because instead of Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey running for a job he has zero experience in, the universe has instead given us failed Jeopardy! host and repeat Women’s World magazine cover model Dr. Oz who is running for a Senate seat in the state of Pennsylvania. This has the potential for a worse outcome than washing down a week-old scrapple sandwich with a room-temperature Wawa water ice.

It was rumored that Dr. Oz – whose real name is Mehmet Oz – was toying with the idea of running for the U.S. Senate earlier this month. Well, that rumor is TRUE, like so many pointless True or False segments Dr. Oz has run on his TV show. Remember? He’s a TV doctor who sometimes wears scrubs to look legit. I’m pretty sure that, and a valid photo ID, are his only qualifications for an attempted career in politics. But still, he’s doing it! via TMZ:

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ, Dr. Oz has just made a multi-million dollar media buy in the state…a media buy to push his impending candidacy. Oz appeared on TMZ Live recently and was coy about running, but he sounded like he was leaning in that direction. Since then, we’ve learned he now has a full campaign staff, including Chris Hansen – not the Chris Hansen from To Catch a Predator – to manage the campaign. Hansen ran the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Dr. Oz will run as a Republican for Pat Toomey’s seat. Toomey is retiring.

Dr. Oz announced his candidacy with an op-ed in the Washington Examiner. via CNN:

“During the pandemic, I learned that when you mix politics and medicine, you get politics instead of solutions. That’s why I am running for the U.S. Senate: to help fix the problems and to help us heal,” Oz wrote. “Pennsylvania needs a conservative who will put America first.”

He also released this video announcing that he’d be running for Senate, which looks like it was filmed in the Dr. Oz Show green room they put guests in when the nice green room is under renovation.

As for his television show, The Dr. Oz Show, it’s expected that he’ll be stepping back for at least a few months. Oh no! But who will The Dr. Oz Show viewers get dubious medical advice and pseudo-science based health tips from?

As for why he’s running as a Republican, that’s probably because he has affiliated himself with the party in the past. In 2018, he was appointed to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition by then-President Donald Trump.

At the end of that video above, Dr. Oz pleads his case by saying that Pennsylvania needs a conservative who will “put America first,” bravely “fight for freedom,” and “tell it like it is.” I’m sorry, Pennsylvania, but that last one should be the reason nobody votes for Dr. Oz. The last time I watched Dr. Oz, he was pushing carb-free shirataki noodles and telling the audience they tasted exactly like regular noodles. You can’t trust a man who can’t even tell the gross, disgusting, slimy truth about fake-noodles!
