Demi Lovato Thought Getting Engaged Would Prove She Was Okay
Demi Lovato is still working hard to prove she’s okay after a disastrous couple of years which found her nearly dying of a drug overdose in 2018, followed by a long period in recovery, which she capped with a hasty engagement to a thirsty beard. Well actually, Max Ehrich is more of a thirsty five o’clock shadow. A couple of weeks ago in a Glamour interview, Demi said that ending her relationship with Max, to whom she got engaged after just a few months of dating, made her realize she was queer. And now in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Demi says that she thought getting married and wearing a million dollar ring on her finger would “prove to the world” that she’s okay. She now sees that that was not okay.
According to E! News:
Last July, the “Sorry Not Sorry” artist announced she and actor Max Ehrich were engaged after mere months of dating. Then, just two months later, following reports that Demi’s family and friends didn’t approve of the relationship, the couple split up.
“I really had myself fooled, because it was the safe and expected thing,” she told the magazine. “Obviously I cared deeply about the person, but there was something inside of me that was like, ‘I have to prove to the world that I’m okay.’ Now that I’m not engaged or married and I’m okay, I’m like, ‘Wow. Isn’t that so much more empowering?’ It’s not this false sense of security.”
I wonder if Demi has ever had her hearing checked? I know she does a lot of bellowing into microphones so there must be a lot of harmful feedback. Maybe partial deafness is to blame for her not being able to hear it when those who care for her told her that it was unsafe and unexpected to marry a dude who looks like he has perfected the art of pocketing small objects of great value over a prolonged period of time so as not to arouse suspicion. Thank god for small miracles though, Demi was wise enough to keep that rock she bought for herself securely on her finger until Max was out of the picture.
She added that her massive engagement ring, which was reportedly worth about $1 million, “made it really real.”
“The second it was off, I was like, ‘You know what? I’m good. I don’t need that,'” the 28 year old continued. “I just don’t need an object on my finger to make me feel like I’ve got my shit together. It looks like stability, but it doesn’t mean that it is.”
I’m sure Max felt differently when he was eyeballing that thing thinking about his financial stability. We may never understand Demi’s life choices, but at least here’s some context for that outfit she’s wearing above.
And here’s Demi’s new song, Dancing With the Devil:
