Vulcan, The Queen’s Dorgi, Has Died
And then there was one. Today brings the sad news that Vulcan, THE QUEEN’s dorgi pup (that’s a supreme lowrider dachshund/Corgi mix) has died. Pour out a splash of tea from the bone china for Vulcan, whose passing leaves Liz with just one remaining pooch, another dorgi named Candy.
Everybody knows that The Queen loves Corgis like Prince Philip loves ballerinas, but her last ones, Whisper and Willow, both died in 2018. Since then she’s just had Vulcan and Candy to keep her side of the bed warm since Philip’s resting temperature is a chilly 36 degrees. FAHRENHEIT. According to People, Vulcan passed away at Windsor Castle.
The 94-year-old monarch’s dog Vulcan died at Windsor Castle, where she and Prince Philip have been staying amid the coronavirus pandemic. Vulcan was a dorgi, a mix between a corgi and a dachshund.
Vulcan was one of the four dogs who starred alongside the Queen in a striking set of portraits shot for the her 90th birthday by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.
Queen Elizabeth previously said she didn’t want to have any more dogs – in part because it risked her tripping over one of the pets and also because she didn’t want to leave any young dogs behind.

People notes that The Queen’s first Corgi, Susan, was given to her as a gift when she was 18. But she was introduced to the breed in 1933 by her father, Colin Firth (citation needed) who had a Corgi named Dookie. Here’s a young Liz holding a fat Dookie in her arms.
Poor Lizzy would probably have been happy to live her life as a country veterinarian like James Harriot or some shit, but instead, she got saddled with the super boring job of monarch for life and had to breed a bunch of ungrateful human brats for The Crown. But at least she had her friends. Rest in peace, Vulcan.
