Jonathan Rhys Meyers Was Arrested For A DUI

Hot Mess Hall of Famer Jonathan Rhys Meyers has gone above and beyond our expectations of what it means to be a Hall of Famer and solidified his bonafides in the annals of Hot Messes by getting arrested in Malibu for a DUI at 5:00 PM on a Sunday. Thankfully, according to TMZ, it was a solo crash and nobody was hurt.

The last time we heard about the goings-on of JRM was back in 2018. He had just fallen off the wagon (again) and gotten into a nasty argument with his wife, Mara Lane, on a United Airlines flight (his options are limited, he was banned from flying American Airlines due to a 2010 incident, and Air Canada probably won’t pick up his calls either) which ended with the FBI greeting him at LAX because he had also been vaping on the plane. So with air travel out, I guess he’s taken his transportation needs into his own hands. TMZ reports:

Jonathan Rhys Meyers might be dealing with some old demons again … because he just got busted for DUI.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … cops got a call about a solo, minor car accident Sunday in Malibu around 5:00 PM. We’re told when cops showed up at the scene, they noticed Jonathan showing signs of being intoxicated. It’s unclear what led to the solo crash … but cops ultimately gave Jonathan a field sobriety test, which we’re told he bombed.

Jonathan, whom cops say blew well past the legal limit, was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and currently remains behind bars. The actor has had a long history of substance abuse and has been to rehab several times.

Poor guy, he’s got more demons than are currently slithering around the halls of The United States Senate. E! News adds that JRM was booked for a misdemeanor and has since been released after his bail was set for $5,000. Page Six reports that his wife Mara “appeared to allude to her husband’s DUI” in a pair of Instagram posts featuring JRM playing with their son Wolf in the couple’s pool.

Obviously, addiction is tragic and sad. But thankfully for JRM, with hard work, in time his plaque in the Hot Mess Hall of Fame can be relegated to a dark forgotten corner. And though it won’t solve all his problems, downloading Lyft or Uber would be a great start.
