Open Post: Hosted By Jada Pinkett Smith’s Concern Over Willow Smith’s Past Weed Smoking

The latest episode of Red Table Talk dealt with the timely topic of coping with addiction during the coronavirus pandemic. Very relatable. This past month I’ve replaced water with red wine, red wine with tequila, and tequila with so, sooo much goat cheese. Jada Pinkett Smith, her mom Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and 19-year-old daughter Willow Smith discussed their family’s history of addiction. Jada has struggled with alcohol abuse, and Adrienne has been sober from heroin for thirty years. Then Jada brought up Willow recently quitting weed.

via Complex:

“Willow, I’m really proud of you as well, because you have decided to curb your excessive weed smoking,” Pinkett Smith said of her daughter. “You always were telling me, you’d be like, ‘Gotta stop that smoking,'” Willow jokingly responded. “Only because as your mother, I could see the effects of it that you couldn’t,” Jada said, with Adrienne adding, “And for me, it was like with the history that we have in our family it was driving me crazy.”

Sitting down with my mother and grandmother for a filmed chat about my pot smoking sounds like a special kind of hell, but Willow seemed pretty chill (hmmm, is she weed-sober?). She mentioned since quitting THC three months ago, some of her friends “drifted away”, but overall it’s been a positive change in her life.

“I know it sounds so cheesy but around the time I stopped smoking I started doing a lot of yoga,” she said. “And I just excelled. ‘Cause I was putting all of my energy into that. Like I wasn’t doing anything else and I was like wow, what if I was doing this with everything?”

Aaand Willow lost me. The road to hell is paved with people telling you to replace marijuana with yoga. AKA every therapist ever.

The rest of the episode was about how they’ve been dealing with the pandemic. Jada’s noticed the psychological patterns that cause her to drink have popped up during lockdown, and Adrienne’s started going back to virtual Narcotics Anonymous meetings after a long break. They had an expert on, and some addicts in recovery called in with questions.

It was all very educational, and to reward myself for watching the whole thing, I get to eat one pint of goat cheese (the trick is, you microwave that shit and down it like a milkshake, YOU’RE WELCOME).
