Drew Barrymore Is Reportedly Shooting A Talk Show Pilot

It’s so interesting how the universe can turn the tables on a person. There was once a time that Drew Barrymore’s daytime probably started at 5:30pm. Now her daytimes involve kids, CROCS, and questioning the legitimacy of certain in-flight publications. Variety reports that it might also soon involve a daytime talk show.

Variety says that Drew is filming a pilot for a daytime TV talk show in New York this week for CBS. Other details are slim. Drew’s talk show pilot will be an hour long and she’s an executive producer on it. CBS Television Distribution didn’t have any comment on the project.

Hearing that Drew will soon be lisping into your living room every day might sound like breaking news to some people, but this is actually the second time Drew has tried this. Three years ago, Drew was in talks with Warner Bros. for a television talk show deal, with Ellen DeGeneres producing. That obviously didn’t happen. But now it looks like CBS is working on it, and this time it could have a chance. Busy Philipps must be thinking, “Oh okay, so apparently now we *do* want a talk show starring a likeable actress and mom with a best friend vibe who loves to wear floaty caftans and do crafts and talk about hair and makeup???

I’m personally very excited for the possibility of a Drew Barrymore talk show. One of my favorite daytime TV moments happened back in 2015, when Drew appeared on Ellen with Martha Stewart, and Martha wasn’t having any of Drew’s charming shenanigans. Eventually Drew stopped giving a fuck and started drinking wine while Ellen awkwardly tried to keep the segment on the rails.

That’s my kind of host. Not the one who tries to maintain an air of professionalism, the one who starts drinking. The show could be a mess, and I am all for that. Especially since it can’t be any worse than the pit of messy daytime TV talk show hell that currently lives at CBS.
