Open Post: Hosted By The Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Ice Cream Sandwich

The American ice cream industry is having a gross-off and we are all losing. Yesterday I wrote about French’s having a moment of ice cream WTFness by inventing a mustard flavored ice cream. Not to be outdone, Oscar Mayer is debuting a hot dog flavored ice cream with actual candied hot dog pieces in them. Candied. Hot dog. Chunks. In. Ice cream. Whatever the executives at Oscar Mayer are smoking, they need to hand over the pipe and stop ruining two beautiful American food staples: ice cream sandwiches and hot dogs. Just let these foods live their separate food lives!

According to People:

Oscar Mayer took to Twitter on Thursday morning to share news of their most recent innovation, the Oscar Mayer Ice Dog Sandwich, taking a shot at French’s new mustard ice cream in the process. “Who eats just mustard @Frenchs?,” the tweet began. “Condiments were made for Oscar Mayer hot dogs. Say hello to the Oscar Mayer Ice Dog Sandwich – [hot dog emoji] flavored ice cream, made with our better hot dogs, sandwiched with spicy mustard [ice cream emoji].”

Ok, if someone had told me that in the future a hot dog company would be sparring with a mustard company (over a thing called Twitter) because they both want to make the best ice cream flavor, I would have thought you were insane, but that’s exactly where 2019 has brought us.
