Shannen Doherty Paid Tribute To Luke Perry
When the 90s tween inside all of us shriveled up into a puddle of sadness after crying out a billion tears over the death of Luke Perry, celebrities who knew him and celebrities who didn’t know him (including Colin Hanks with his story of Luke saving a flight from wild brats!) shared their thoughts and condolences for him, but the one that I kept waiting to her from was his forever onscreen soulmate Shannen Doherty. I refreshed Shannen’s Twitter and Instagram pages so many times that after the one millionth refresh, I got a restraining order from her Twitter and Instagram pages in my inbox. The night before Luke went off to heaven to have a smolder-off with James Dean, Shannen was at a charity event and asked for payers before calling him “her Dylan.” Shannen has now spoken about the way-too-early loss of Luke Perry.
On Instagram today, Shannen paid tribute to Luke by posting pictures of the Tracy and Hepburn of our time (or was Tracy and Hepburn the Brenda and Dylan of THEIR time?).
Shannen gave a longer statement to People, saying that they lost touch after 90210 ended, but when she went public with her cancer diagnosis, he got back in touch with her. Neither signed on to do that fucked-up 90210 reboot, but Shannen says they talked about doing something together.
“I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind.
Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained in tact. There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general. Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives. I will miss him everyday. Every minute. Every second.”
Does anybody have a wall I can borrow? I broke all of mine while repeatedly doing the slow wall slide of sadness over Luke’s death. And I’m going to need to do another slow wall slide over never getting to see the perfect 90210 reboot (aka a 90210 reboot with Brenda and Dylan only).
As for Luke’s other 90210 cast mates, most of them poured out love for him. Steve Sanders:
Dearest Luke,
I will forever bask in the loving memories we've shared over the last thirty years. May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here, for those you leave behind.— Ian Ziering (@IanZiering) March 4, 2019
Andrea Zuckerman:
Dearest Luke- I am so heart broken and at a loss for words. You my friend were a mighty soul and have left your mark. My love and prayers to the family and all who loved you. RIP

Kelly Taylor to People:
“My heart is broken. He meant so much to so many. Such a very special person. I share my deep sadness with his family and all who loved him. Such a terrible loss.”
Donna Martin to People:
““I’m in utter shock and heartbroken. I’m saddened for his kids whom he adored beyond words. He was so proud of Jack and Sophie. Luke was one of the kindest and most humble human beings I’ve ever known. I’m grateful for the years of friendship we had. He truly was family to me, a protector and a brother. I’m so sorry for the loss that everyone is experiencing.”
David Silver hasn’t said anything yet, and I’m guessing that’s because he’s working on a very special dance to do in Dylan McKay’s honor at the funeral (just watch this on mute):
And I also hope that Brenda and Kelly show up in the same iconic black and white spring dance dress, but Kelly won’t, because to this day she knows Brenda worked it better.
