HBO Isn’t Going To Fire Or Punish Bill Maher

If I insist on bringing you yet another story about Bill Maher, then I should at least give your eyes something adorable like a puppy friend. Specifically, a puppy friend who is wondering what she did wrong in life to deserve being seen in public with the insufferable turnip.

Over the weekend, Kathy Griffin probably sent Bill Maher a bloody Trump mask full of thank you flowers, because the headlines about her stunt and messy press conference got replaced with headlines about him dropping the n-word during a live taping of his show Real Time on HBO. Bill later burped up an apology, saying that he regret saying the word and it kept him up all night. HBO also said that what came out of Bill’s smug hole was inexcusable and tasteless. But while Kathy is finding herself out of several jobs, Bill Maher is keeping his for now.

Entertainment Weekly says that Bill will be back on HBO this Friday as usual, but they’re going to have to find a new guest. Ice Cube and Senator Al Franken of Minnesota were scheduled to be his guests on Friday. Ice hasn’t quit that bitch yet, but Senator Al has. A rep for Senator Al’s office said in a statement that Bill Maher a “good friend” but says that the Senator just can’t sit opposite him after that world casually slipped off of his tongue.

“Senator Franken believes that what Bill Maher said was inappropriate and offensive, which is why he made the decision not to appear on the next episode of Real Time. He was glad to see Bill, who the Senator considers to be a good friend, apologize and express sincere regret for his comment.”

Senator Al also had to cancel Kathy Griffin’s invitation to appear at an event for his book in California next month. So Senator Al is definitely scrolling through the contact list on his iPhone like, “Which one of you is going to fuck up on me next?”

TMZ thinks that Bill’s job situation is different than someone like Kathy’s, because HBO isn’t dealing with advertisers who are threatening to pull their money if he’s not fired. Subscribers could threaten to cancel their HBO, but TMZ doesn’t think many would. Still, I’m sure the thought that has some people calling the owner of the HBO GO login they use to say, “Listen, if this Bill Maher mess has you pissed off and you want to cancel HBO, can you at least wait until the new season of Game of Thrones ends in August?”
