Pop A Celebratory Eggo Waffle, “Stranger Things” Has Been Renewed For A Second Season

This week is only three days old, and already there’s been enough bummer news to make me drink like it’s the weekend. Clearly the Universe heard us all screaming “Okay, call me when the week is done” and decided to take pity on us by giving us some genuinely good news.

Variety says that Netflix has renewed Stranger Things, the show that spawned a million title card memes and causes grown adults to groan “What do you MEAN you haven’t watched it?!?“, for a second season. Season 2 will have nine episodes (one more than season 1’s eight episodes), and will come out sometime next year. I know a picture of Winona Ryder looking like she’s channeling her inner Jack Torrance might seem like a weird choice for such wonderful news. But until Netflix releases a deleted scene featuring Barb busting out some hot moves to Nu Shooz’s “I Can’t Wait“, this will have to do.

If you don’t want any SPOILERS!!! for season 2, then skip this next part. Entertainment Weekly spoke to Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer about season 2 and they gave some details about the new season. It will still be set in 1984 and will be a continuation of S1. They say most of the characters will be back, but they don’t want to confirm or deny if that includes Eleven. They add that there will be four new characters, and that there will be a whole lot more time spent in the Upside-Down. They also released this teaser trailer, which tells you pretty much nothing besides the second season’s episode titles, but got me pretty excited anyway.

Hopefully the second seasons of Stranger Things will finally get to the bottom of the biggest mystery of the show: whether or not Jean-Ralphio Saperstein is Steve’s son. Forget about that monster, I want to know if Steve is the father!
