Open Post: Hosted By The Trailer For The “White Men Can’t Jump” Remake

Hollywood loves to fuck up classic films because they enjoy stomping over nostalgia like roaches in a run-down building. And its latest victim, 1992’s White Men Can’t Jump, has gotten a shiny update starring Jack Harlow and Sinqua Walls, who will be taking on Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes‘ characters, respectively. 20th Century Studios has released the official trailer, and it looks just as exciting as you think it is (it isn’t). Luckily it’s only being released on Hulu so as not to embarrass itself at the box office.
Entertainment Tonight reports your least favorite remake premieres on Hulu on May 19, with appearances by Teyana Taylor, as well as the late Lance Reddick, in one of his last film roles. Honestly, Teyana and Lance almost sold me on wanting to see this until I saw the trailer. And all it did was make me realize I’ve already seen this film. In 1992. And it was much better back then than this will ever be.
Pass. How many times can we do the whole “Let’s recycle the same stale jokes again for a check” schtick? But Jack is very impressed with his work in the film, as he gave a wonderful rub and tug to his own ego during a Grammys after-party interview in February about his role.
“It’s good, I’ll tell you that,” the rapper told ET. “I’ve seen a good amount of it now; I was waiting to see it and this was my first [time]. I was nervous, you know, typically I control my products. Putting this in someone else’s hands, I was just a cog in a machine. So I hope it’s good, pretty happy with what I’ve seen.”
And what about members of the original? Woody didn’t even know this was happening, and when asked if he would make a cameo, he said, “I don’t know if you’ll see me in that one. That’ll be interesting, huh? You never know.” Translation: Hell No! And if it’s a “no” from him, then we should take his advice and stay away from this as well.
