Not Everyone Was Feeling Singer Tems’ View-Blocking Oscars Look

I feel bad for whoever had the unfortunate placement of sitting behind Nigerian singer and nominee Tems at the Oscars because whenever she purchased her outfit, her first thought must have been, “Stretch your neck bitches!” I’m not sure if this was her first time at the ceremony, but I can guarantee you it will be her last time sitting anywhere close to the front since her IDGAF gown is now causing mixed reactions over on Twitter. And some people think her fashion choice was a good idea, while others believe she should have won the award for Best Vision Blocking Vestment.

Tems was at last night’s Oscars as a nominee since she helped write the nominated song, Lift Me Up, from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Normally people attend the Oscars ready to shock everyone with their fashion choices. But I don’t think this was Tems’ goal, as she clearly had fitness on her mind for whoever was sitting behind her. Because why else would she wear such a view-obstructing piece of fashion unless she wanted her back-row friends to constantly hop out of their chairs to look over that mountain of fabric she calls a dress? I guess she figured it would be a great workout for the calf muscles. And once they got tired of that exercise, they could do the peek-a-boo peek around, which must work wonders for the neck and obliques (as demonstrated below)

TMZ reports Tems’ frock, created by Lever Couture, caused quite a stir on Twitter, where reactions ranged from supportive to supporting her decision to throw that frilly, form-fitting gauze into the nearest waste bin as soon as she left the theater.

The Nigerian singer — who was on hand Sunday for her musical work on ‘Wakanda Forever’ — had one of the more noticeable getups at the award show … a massive white dress that was jutting out and upward at her shoulders, which made her look like a human flower.

The problem … when she sat down, her ‘fit sorta caused a big distraction — both onscreen for viewers, and certainly for everyone else sitting in the rows behind her.

Luckily for Tems, the reviews weren’t all bad. And some commended her for making such a bold fashion statement.

Honestly, the dress is a bit much for my taste, but then again, she’s not the first person to wear a What The Fuck Is That? ensemble to The Oscars. Because if you ever want folks to question how you spend your money by judging your outfit, the Oscars are always the perfect place to do so.
