Open Post: Hosted By A Ukrainian Soldier’s Cat Checkpoint

November 12, 2022 / Posted by:

Ukraine is still defending itself from Russia, yet despite the turmoil and uncertainty, the people continue to live their lives and enjoy the small things however they can. Case in point: a Ukrainian soldier has gone viral for his services to his cats and country. While presumably on duty, he realized that there was something missing at his post. And that something was a checkpoint for cats. The man took it upon himself to do some quick measurements and build a bona fide kitty checkpoint.

In order to build the structure, the soldier had to undergo one of the most dangerous activities known to humankind: almost touching a cat’s belly. I’m not sure HOW he did it, but he managed to wrangle three whole cats, calmly flip them over to take their measurements, and then build a working checkpoint!

As Newsweek details, the TikTok was a hit with everyone who watched it:

The TikTok post, which was first shared on the platform on Thursday, has attracted animal lovers from all over the world, receiving more than 7 million views and 929,000 likes so far.

One user, _notamber, commented: “At first I thought [he was] creating a growth chart for the kitties on the door frame like you do with little kids. This is better and so cute!”

And andeineko said: “The measuring was hilariousss.” And happyinlife75 wrote: “The purring while measuring!!” Victoria added: “The way I laughed when he measured their tummies and faces.”

Rhiannon pointed out: “I’m losing it over the one cat that is just completely gone from the world while it’s being measured.” And _rosewater_ said: “This is what math was made for.” KB Toy added: “I would’ve been content just watching you measure different parts of cats, honestly.”

No word on how often the cats are actually using the checkpoint. This video is shocking to me on many levels. I can’t pet the family cats without them running away after about 30 seconds, much less measure one of their stomachs. I’m going to try doing this weekend. If you don’t hear from me again, know that I probably succumbed to my wounds after being scratched to death!
