SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher Applauds Disney’s Decision To Lift Its Vaccine Mandate On Sets, And Yes, People Had Thoughts

After a contentious battle, Fran Drescher, the former flashy girl from Flushing on The Nanny, ascended to power as the president of Hollywood’s biggest union SAG-AFTRA after beating opponent Matthew Modine. Yes, I was just as surprised as you were to discover this nugget of knowledge because, for me, she’ll always be the gaudy governess on a constant mission to fuck her boss while raising his children in a daily uniform of elegant heels and Aquanet. Unfortunately, the Fran we know from television ain’t the same as this new President Fran, as she has recently applauded Disney for lifting its COVID vaccine mandate. And while some are with Fran, others are not so FranFine about her message.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Fran has been very outspoken about the infringement upon her rights as a human being by asking to be injected with the vaccine in an attempt to keep everyone safe. I’m going to assume that now whenever she coughs, the people around her will scurry faster than Mr. Sheffield did in the early seasons. But after learning Disney lifted the vaccine mandate on twelve of their productions, she immediately let everyone know her thoughts on social media.

In her video message, Drescher said, “We as a nation must be very careful that fear does not turn into fascism.” She continued, “When equal citizens stop being equal, when cards must be presented to identify whether you are included or excluded, we stand at a tipping point of an America I no longer recognize.” Drescher noted that she herself is vaccinated but still supports Disney dropping vaccine mandates.

Drescher ended by suggesting that vaccine mandates amounted to discrimination, saying, “The problem with discrimination is that there will always be good people that justify it because of an extreme condition. But it is those times especially when we must fight even harder to protect the sanctity of freedom for all and never succumb to an us-versus-them mentality.” She closed the video by saying, “Above all else, freedom,” and flashing a peace sign.

Here’s her full message:

If you scroll through her comments, you’ll see that Fran’s performance up there got mixed reviews. Some thanked her, but others, including members of SAG, shook their heads:

After getting elected last year, Fran is currently serving a two-year term, and she can run for re-election once that’s up. So we’ll know then if Fran’s “BEWARE OF FASCISM” message messed with her chances. Maybe Matthew Modine will decide to challenge her again and kick her off of her SAG-AFTRA throne in one of those crushing scenes.
