Open Post: Hosted By Oscar Mayer’s Cold Dog Popsicle
Tired of your regular rocky road? Do the triple tastes of Neapolitan no longer excite you? If the cause of your ennui is limited to ice cream flavors, then Oscar Mayer may have the remedy: the Cold Dog. Yes, all the flavor of a barbeque-grilled hot dog in one creamy stick. And they say American food is disgusting!
Oscar Mayer has been teasing new wiener-based concepts to its fans on its social channels, from wiener cakes (note to self: book this for my wedding) to wiener bouquets. It was left to the audience to decide if these ideas were any good. The Cold Dog emerged as a winner which goes to show you can’t trust the people to decide in favor of common sense. A classic example of tyranny of the masses! And so, the Cold Dog is now a harrowing reality. A member from Delish decided to subject themselves to the abomination:
Oscar Mayer decided to partner with PopBar for this project because they use creamy gelato as the base for their popsicles. For the Cold Dog, they flavored gelato with the smokey, umami notes of an Oscar Mayer wiener and topped off the pop with a drizzle of mustard-colored white chocolate.
To be frank (pun intended), I was beyond skeptical of how they could make a hot dog popsicle taste good. And somehow, they managed to do it! The gelato is extremely creamy and has a strong smokey flavor that balances out the popsicle’s delicate sweetness. The sweet “mustard” drizzle makes it taste more like a proper ice cream.
Shockingly, the Cold Dog is more complicated than jamming a partially cooked hot dog into the freezer. If you’re tempted to try a wiener in cream form, you’re out of luck as Delish reports that it was only available through August 27. For those of you who are curious as to what it looked and tasted like, here are a few reviews from some New Yorkers:

These people are brave. If someone on the street approached me and asked me to suck on a cold wiener, they’d be in for the slap of their lives!
