“The Wendy Williams Show” Will Air Its Final Episode This Friday

Although we’ve known this day was on the horizon for a while now, the time has come for the long-running, messy talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, to spill its final cup of Hot Topics this Friday, and it comes at a very traumatic time in former host Wendy Williams‘ career. For the past few years, Wendy has been enduring multiple scandals that have played out in public to the point where she no longer serves as the host. And to add insult to injury once the show says goodbye on Friday Wendy won’t even be there.

This truly is the end of an era because Wendy was the champion of mess and never shied away from asking invasive questions that probably made her guests want to give her a quick chop to the throat and ask “How YOU doin’, bitch?”. Luckily, in the show’s thirteen-year run, this never happened because Wendy always gave the impression she had no problems squaring up with her guests just in case they tried to challenge her (we’re looking at you, Omarosa). In any case, the show has now been handed over to Sherri Shepherd, who will be taking over Wendy’s timeslot this fall with a talk show of her own. This caused a bit of a rift between the two of them, but Sherri couldn’t care less because she knows her bank account is about to thank her for many years to come.

Deadline reports the final show will air on Friday, June 17, and although Wendy will not be in attendance for the final curtain call there will be a moment to reflect on her iconic run and the many memorable moments she brought to daytime television.

The Wendy Williams Show had been slated to continue through the end of the season with rotating guest hosts, as Williams has been sidelined with health issues for the entire season. Williams will not be present for the final episode, but it will include a video montage with a tribute to her and her long run.

The Wendy Williams Show has been an important show for both Debmar-Mercury and the Fox Stations. It was one of Debmar-Mercury’s first original syndicated programs and has been one of its longest-running and most successful ones. Wendy launched with a limited test run on Fox TV Stations in summer 2009, becoming the first nationally syndicated hit to come out of the model that has become a staple for the Fox Stations.

Wendy has remained silent about the upcoming final show, but that’s probably because she’s busy plotting her comeback after we all think she’s down and out. And meanwhile, I think the backlash from Wendy’s fans will ultimately kill Sherri’s new show so she shouldn’t get too comfortable with creating a new catchphrase other than when she begins calling the unemployment line biweekly saying “I am open and ready for work“.
