Open Post: Hosted By The Rock’s T-Rex Skull

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has everything. Money. Muscles. A long-term feud with Vin Diesel. So what do you do when you’re the man who needs for nothing, but has nothing but time to spend stupid piles of money? Well, I guess you dump money on a dinosaur skull. At least that’s what it looks like The Rock did.

This particular skull was addressed by Eli Manning, of all people. Last night, The Rock joined Eli and his brother, Peyton Manning, to discuss the details of an NFL game between the Rams and the Cardinals. But the conversation quickly moved on to another type of animal, particularly one that went extinct 65 million years ago. Eli asked if The Rock had a T-Rex behind him, and yes, it was a T-Rex. According to The Rock, it’s the skull of a T-Rex he’s named Stan, after the paleontologist who discovered said T-Rex skull. The Rock claims that the “pretty cool and bad ass” Stan is the most complete T-Rex skull ever found.

As for how much The Rock paid for it, Uproxx notes how an actual T-Rex skeleton was sold for almost $32 million at an auction in 2020.

Somehow, this story only gets wilder from here, because a quick Google search of this gets us to a story from CNN in which Stan – which is, as Johnson said, the most complete T-Rex skeleton ever unearthed – sold for $31.8 million at auction in 2020 to an undisclosed buyer. If that is really the head, that means The Rock was the one who spent nearly $32 million on a whole T-Rex.

But the internet did a little digging, no pun intended, and they suspect that The Rock might not actually own the real Stan. When Stan was found, each bone was molded and his skull was recreated in almost exact detail. A replica of Stan’s skull retails for a much thriftier $11,500.

I can totally see Vin Diesel using this information to his benefit the next time he tries to manipulate The Rock into the final Fast and the Furious movie. “I heard you could only buy a knock-off dinosaur skull. You know, if money is that tight, you can always negotiate a pretty big Fast and the Furious paycheck.”
