Cooper/Butter, the “stray” dog who saved a family from a fire!

This space is no stranger to paying tribute to furry heroes who have saved humans from DOOM! Well, here’s another knight in furry armor. Cooper was thought to be a stray dog and was taken in by a family in Virginia. He ended up paying them back by alerting them to a fire that broke out near their house. After that tale of doggy heroism went viral, Cooper’s original humans recognized him and he was reunited with him. And yes, that’s a picture of Cooper who is definitely thinking, “I just saved that family from a fire, and yet I am not surrounded by thank you gifts of Pupperonis and Snausages? Can you believe that shit?

The hotly-named Charity Galloway tells WJHL that recently, Cooper showed up at their house in Big Stone Gap, VA, and wouldn’t leave. Charity and her family assumed Cooper was a stray and started to care for him. They don’t call her Charity for nothing! Charity’s family gave him the name “Butter.” On Thursday morning, Cooper/Butter was hanging out in his outdoor doggy shelter, which was only five feet from the house, when an electric lamp caught fire. Charity put the lamp near Cooper’s house to keep him warm. Cooper got all Lassie and went to Charity’s bedroom window and started barking loudly. The fire alarms hadn’t gone off yet. Charity was woken up by Cooper’s barking but still didn’t know that what was going on until the fire broke one of the windows. Charity says that the flames got big really fast, but she and her son were able to tame the fire with water from a garden hose. There was only a little damage to the house. Charity thinks it would’ve been a lot worse if it wasn’t for the guardian angel known as Butter/Cooper!

The fire was already out when firefighters from Valley Volunteer Firefighter Department arrived, but one firefighter, Justin Stidham, praised Cooper’s heroism!

Stidham said the dog’s quick action saved the house from destruction. “If wasn’t for that dog, that house would’ve been lit up all throughout the ceiling, and we would’ve been there for hours fighting that house,” Stidham said. He said early notification can be the difference between saving and losing a house to fire because it slims down a fire department’s response time.

Cooper’s heroic act didn’t only save a family’s house from burning up, it also led to his original family finding his ass! After Firefighter Justin shared a picture of him and Butter/Cooper on social media, it went viral and Cooper’s humans recognized him. Cooper had been missing since the summer. Cooper’s humans reached out to Charity and will pick him up soon. Here’s Butter/Cooper’s fire-saving tale:

So let’s see, a guardian angel dog who Charity thought was a stray mysteriously showed up at her house and ended up saving her family from a fire? And all of this happened during the holidays! I know that Christmas is less than three weeks away but that isn’t going to stop Netflix from fast-tracking this sweet story into one of their many holiday movies and releasing it before December 25! And as payment to Cooper, they better make it rain nothing but Pupperonis on him!
