Shawn Mendes Releases A Break-Up Ballad Two Weeks After Splitting With Camila Cabello
23-year-old Shawn Mendes is back with a new song post his contract expiring with break-up from 24-year-old Camila Cabello. It’s a run-of-the-mill, strike-while-the-iron-is-hot break-up ballad which I guarantee you was written and produced before they actually announced they ended things.
Shawn and Camila started dating in July 2019 and terrorized society with their PDA for the following two years. They blessed us with an end to the madness two weeks ago, and I guess that’s how long it takes for inspiration to allegedly strike because People says that Shawn released a new emotional breakup track. It’ll Be Okay is all piano and melancholy and over-emotional lyrics about a relationship that seemed to primarily exist around sticking their tongues in each other’s mouths in public. Mendes details the end of a turbulent relationship as he sings, “the future we dreamed of is fading to black.” In the chorus, however, he transitions into a hopeful attitude of healing and acceptance as he repeatedly sings, “it’ll be okay.”
“If you tell me you’re leaving / I’ll make it easy / It’ll be okay / If we can’t stop the bleeding,” Mendes sings. “We don’t have to fix it / We don’t have to stay / I will love you either way.” Mendes first announced the song’s release on Tuesday, teasing lyrics that said, “Are we gonna make it? / Is this gonna hurt?”
Shawn posted to Instagram saying that he hadn’t “truly connected with you guys in a while. I miss you I hope you love this song.”

In other Shawmila (RIP) news, a source tells Hollywood Life that what really has Shawn’s heart in knots is Tarzan, the dog he got with Camila when they were together. Camila ended up getting custody of Tarzan and that has given Shawn the sads:
“Shawn is trying to move on with his life and he is getting ready to drop a single and go on tour,” a source close to Shawn said. “Although he is in a good place in his head over the breakup with Camila, there is one aspect of it that he is not okay with, which is being separated from his dog Tarzan!
…Shawn and Camila got Tarzan together and Tarzan had become like a child to Shawn. Now that him and Camila are broken up, she has Tarzan and he is really upset over the separation from him. He really misses Tarzan greatly.”
