Open Post: Hosted By Lorde Remaining Unfazed During The Spicy Wing “Hot Ones” Challenge

Have you seen Hot Ones? It’s this show on YouTube where host Sean Evans makes celebrities eat chicken wings smothered in increasingly spicy hot sauces. The final wing is covered in a hot sauce with an alleged Scoville rating of around 2.5 million+ SHUs (although the official number is hotly [heh] contested by experts]. To put that number in perspective, Tabasco sauce is just 2,500-5,000 SHU. So usually, by the end of the episode, the celeb guests are a mess; chugging water with snot/tears running down their faces. But not Lorde. Lorde went on Hot Ones to promote her upcoming album Solar Power and popped those wings in her mouth like it was popcorn at the movies.

The hot sauce that usually fucks everybody is called “Da Bomb.” Here is Gordon Ramsay’s reaction, which included coughing, gagging, many swears, downing cups of Pepto Bismol, dabbing a lime on his tongue, lips, and butt, and crying his eyes out:

Lorde’s reaction to Da Bomb? She barely flinched. She shook her head, admitted, “It’s almost… bitter,” then blew her nose in a ladylike fashion. And for the final, hottest wing, she commented, “Tasty!” The host just sat there in awe. If you wanna see the master at work, here’s Lorde’s full Hot Ones episode:

Is it a thing for New Zealanders to have high spice tolerance? Or is this just Lorde? Later that evening Lorde was probably spotted dining on vindaloo, jerk chicken, and Sichuan hot pot. And not once did she ask for water. The opposite of me, who asks for a pitcher of water, extra napkins, and a prescription for heartburn medication anytime I order anything spicier than ketchup.
