“Arthur” Has Been Canceled After 25 Seasons

Shocking news outta PBS (said no one ever)! The legendary kids’ show Arthur has been canceled after 25 seasons. Arthur, based on the books by Marc Brown, debuted in 1996, which makes it the longest-running children’s animated series in America. It’s the winner of four Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Children’s Animated Program, a Peabody Award, and the 2019 episode where Mr. Ratburn gets gay-married was banned in Alabama. That last one just might be the highest honor of all.

Executive producer Carol Greenwald confirmed that the show’s upcoming 25th season will be Arthur’s last, via TV Line:

“In the winter of 2022, the 25th and final season of Arthur will debut. Arthur will continue to be available on PBS KIDS for years to come. Producer GBH and PBS KIDS are continuing to work together on additional Arthur content, sharing the lessons of Arthur and his friends in new ways.”

So even though the show is over, we probably haven’t seen the last of Arthur Read. Lemme guess… TikTok series? Cookware line? Hologram tour? The memes will certainly live on:

Or maybe they’ll pitch a Gossip Girl-type reboot where D.W. gets shipped off to prep school and psychologically tortures Gen Z richies. God, Dora Winifred Read. She was the real star. What a goddamn savage:

Whatever happens in the future, Arthur will forever be in my heart. And brain. Cuz, try as I might, I cannot ever get the music outta my head: the Ziggy Marley theme song, the Crazy Bus earworm that tortured poor Arthur for literal years, the Binky pop single, the library card bop, Brain’s Jekyll and Hyde song, and, of course, Arthur’s rap that’s the only reason any of us know how to spell aardvark:
