Matthew Perry And His Fiancée Molly Hurwitz Have Broken Up
Throw on your velvet choker with a cameo pendant from Charlotte Russe, spritz on some Gap Grass, slip into some knock-off Steve Madden platform wedges from the swap meet, and throw up a peace sign whenever you go because it’s the 90s again now that Matthew Perry is in the “news” so much. Matthew, of course, is getting attention for that Friends reunion. Matthew’s name came up again when the director of the reunion, Ben Winston, slapped down tricks for saying that Matthew didn’t look well and was slurring during the reunion. (It’s been reported that Matthew had emergency dental surgery the morning of the reunion taping and let everyone know he’s sober.) I don’t know how people noticed Matthew slurring because I was too busy shaking my head at myself for choosing to watch a Friends reunion that had zero appearances by Morgan Fairchild, Aisha Tyler, and Lauren Tom, but yet had Justin Bieber in it.
And now, 51-year-old Matthew Perry is in the news again and this time it’s because he and his 29-year-old fiancée, Molly Hurwitz, are over. They got engaged during the pandemic, so this could’ve been a “we’re bored of making sourdough all day every day so let’s do something different and get engaged” situation and now they’ve decided they made a mistake. Tale as old as COVID.
Matthew and Molly, who is a literary manager, started dating about two years ago and got engaged in November 2020. Matthew said at the time that he got engaged to “the greatest woman on the face of this planet at this time.” That made some of us ask, “Matthew Perry is engaged to Dolly Parton?!” But Matthew’s engagement is over and he tells People that he wishes her well:
The Friends star has called off his engagement to the literary manager, PEOPLE can exclusively report.
“Sometimes things just don’t work out and this is one of them,” Perry said, in a statement. “I wish Molly the best.”
The above picture of Molly is from happier times (in December) when she modeled a t-shirt from the Friends-inspired merchandising line that Matthew launched before the reunion. Yup, Chandler Bing is peddling Friends shit, because even with that Friends reunion money and residuals, a monthly Raya membership still ain’t cheap. Speaking of….
We don’t know why Matthew and Molly broke up, but last month, a TikToker posted a clip from a FaceTime chat she had with him last year when she was 19 and matched with him on Raya. Matthew and Molly were apparently on a break at the time (Um, that’s Ross and Rachel’s thing, Chandler!). So maybe Molly dumped him because of that. Or maybe Matthew knew it was time to move on when he smelled the old lady scent wafting off of Molly, so he dropped her off at Shady Pines and went back on Raya to flirt with teenagers who’d look at him blankly if he asked him who their favorite Friends character was. Because in the early-aughts, the only friends they knew were the ones in their mommy and me playgroup.
