Cher Apologized For Suggesting She Could Have Saved George Floyd
Like so many of us, Cher helplessly watched as Derek Chauvin, who is currently on trial for murder, pressed his knee into George Floyd’s neck for 9 and a half minutes as he pleaded for his life. But unlike most of us, Cher thought that if she had been there, she might have been able to intervene. Over the weekend, Cher tweeted, “Is Gonna Sound CRAZY,But … I Kept Thinking … Maybe If I’d Been There, … I Could’ve Helped,” which, admittedly, does sound crazy, but this is Cher we’re talking about. According to Page Six, the tweet didn’t sit well with a lot of people on Twitter who accused her of being “tone deaf” and having a “white savior complex.” So perhaps to prove her point, Cher went and actually did the seemingly impossible. She apologized on Twitter.
Page Six reports:
Cher says she is “truly sorry” after claiming she could have prevented George Floyd’s death — and was accused of having a “white savior” complex.
The songstress, 74, admitted that she realized that she hurt people “by not knowing everything that’s ‘not appropriate to say.’
The singer came under fire after she tweeted Friday that she was watching the trial of ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who planted his knee on Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds during a routine bust.
Is Gonna Sound CRAZY,But … I Kept Thinking … Maybe If I’d Been There, … I Could’ve Helped,” she wrote.
Many people online accused her of white privilege and being tone deaf.
White and privileged, yes. But tone-deaf?!! That’s what the auto-tune is for, baby. Here’s Cher’s apology. And as if we needed any further proof of Cher’s singularity, Cher apparently has a friend named Karen who tells her when she’s being a Karen.
I Just got off phone With Friend Karen.Told her what Happened,& Realized,You Can Piss Ppl Off,& Hurt Them By Not Knowing Everything That’s”NOT Appropriate”To Say.I know Ppl Apologize When They’re In a Jam,BUT🤚🏼TO GOD🙏🏼,IM TRULY SORRY If I Upset AnyOne In Blk Community.I Know My❤️

Cher’s original tweet has since been deleted, but before the apology, she followed it up by tweeting “Do you know who I am?!” in the Cher-est way possible. It did not help.
Wrestled With This Twt, Because I Thought some ppl wouldn’t understand, Or Believe an Entertainer Could have Honest emotions about a human Being, suffering & Dying, even if It’s Only Shown On tv. You Don’t Know What I’ve Done,Who I Am,Or What I Believe.I CAN,I HAVE,& I WILL..HELP

Cher is a hands-on problem solver, we know this from when she tried to help out during the election by calling her local post office in Malibu to see if she could volunteer. She’s also personally traveled to Cambodia to help save Kavaan, the so-called “world’s loneliest elephant.” Cher even said that she and Meryl Streep once saved a woman from being sexually assaulted in the streets of New York. So it makes sense that Cher has a savior complex. And yes, Cher is white, but I think calling it a Cher savior complex is probably more accurate.
