JoJo Siwa Reveals She Has A “Perfect” Girlfriend Who Encouraged Her To Come Out
It’s official, 17-year-old JoJo Siwa is out and proud! Last night your 6-year-old niece’s favorite YouTuber went on The Tonight Show for an interview with Jimmy Fallon. For once, Jimmy couldn’t get a word in edgewise as JoJo excitedly explained the extremely Gen-Z process of her coming out on TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram. She also revealed that she is in a long-distance relationship with “the most amazing, wonderful, perfect, most beautiful girlfriend in the whole world.” She says her unnamed girlfriend was “super encouraging” of JoJo’s decision to come out.
JoJo initially filmed a dancing TikTok with members of Pride House LA, which was posted two weeks ago. She also posted a TikTok to Gaga’s Born This Way. Obviously, this got fans speculating about JoJo’s sexuality, and she had to decide if she would confirm the rumors or “have fun with them.” On a FaceTime call with her girlfriend, JoJo decided to just come out by posting a pic of her wearing a shirt that said: “Best Gay Cousin Ever.” And the little rebel did it all without giving her publicist a head’s up! via Cosmopolitan:
“The day after I posted on TikTok, I was on FaceTime with her, and we were just talking about it and talking about all of the love that came in, and we were both like technically I still hadn’t confirmed it,” JoJo said. “And I was like, I kind of want to post this picture on my real story. She was super encouraging like, ‘Do it!’ I was like, ‘Alright, I did it.'”
JoJo revealed that she was out to all her friends and family, and it’s not something she’s ashamed of. She says it was a scary thing, but:
“…even if there’s a million people—that’s a lot of people—that don’t accept it, there’s a hundred million that do.”
“I was like, ‘Technically, that was a really big risk that I took posting that,” she continued. “But if I lost everything that I’ve created because of being myself and because of loving who I want to love, I don’t want it…if I can’t love who I want to love. That’s one of the most important things to me.”
JoJo says she spoke to her girlfriend right before her Tonight Show interview:
“I was again on the phone with my girl and I started crying. She’s like, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ I’m like, ‘I’m just so happy.’ I was like, ‘Because now I get to share what makes me the happiest with the world, and it makes my heart so happy.'”

All I knew about JoJo before her coming out was Lemon’s impression of her on Canada’s Drag Race. And, um, I guess I maaaaybe accidentally somehow watched an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians where Kim took North West to play at her house. But coming out to millions of child fans, many of whom are stuck being raised by judgmental, Bible-thumping, scandalized moms, couldn’t have been an easy feat. So good on ya, kid!
