Danny Masterson’s Rape Case Is Heading To Trial

Normally this might be where I suggest Danny Masterson start praying to whatever Scientology members pray to. Because the last time we wrote about Danny Masterson, it was reported that he was so confident his rape case was going to get tossed, that he turned down the opportunity to take a plea deal. Well, if Danny isn’t the praying type, then maybe his time would be better spent practicing his, “Your honors” and all that. Danny’s officially going to trial for those rape charges.

Back in June, Danny was finally charged in Los Angeles with three counts of rape by force or fear. Danny was accused of rape by several former Scientologists at the beginning of 2017. One victim, who was reportedly dating Danny at the time, alleged that Danny drugged her and raped her at a party in the early 2000s. Another victim claimed that Danny choked her and raped her at a party and that she too believed she might have been drugged as well.

The victims also alleged that Scientology did what they could to prevent them from reporting their alleged abuse, like telling the victims that they’d be declared “suppressive persons” if they went to the cops. There were also allegations of retribution, like from Scientology upper-ups, or the very, very dark allegation of double dog murder. Danny was eventually written off Netflix’s The Ranch and dropped by his talent agency. Danny has maintained his innocence, and has accused his accusers of being bitter, scorned ex-girlfriends.

As I mentioned above, Danny believed he wouldn’t see the inside of a courtroom, because the allegations are on the older side. Deadline says that the case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller of the Sex Crimes Division. DDA Reinhold says that all of the alleged crimes occurred at Danny’s home between the years of 2001 and 2003. Danny allegedly thought that was old enough to get the charges thrown out, due to the statute of limitations. Nope!

His lawyers, appearing in court yesterday, argued that the accusations are between 17 and 19 years old and so the case should be dismissed. Danny might want to suggest his lawyers switch out this week’s Scientology book club pick with an updated copy of the statute of limitations in Los Angeles. Because in 2016, the state of California decided there would be no statute of limitations regarding rape cases. Deadline says Judge Eleanor Hunter naturally trashed that idea and ruled that Danny was going to trial. He is scheduled to be in court for his arraignment on November 2rd.

Danny also lost the right to keep the case private from the media. His lawyers were pushing to keep the media out of the courtroom, due to Danny being a famous person, and that the media might create an “unfair prejudice” against him. But Judge Eleanor also tossed that request and will allow media to be present. Danny hasn’t worked since the allegations were made against him, and he has referred to himself as a retired actor on social media.

Good news, Danny! You’re coming out of retirement. With the media being allowed inside the courtroom, I think that qualifies as on-camera work. Although, it’s not like people will want to watch. But he should be used to that. He was on The Ranch for three seasons.
