Tom Cruise Doesn’t Really Let Anyone Run Onscreen With Him

Running. I think we can all agree that this activity sucks and all the people who insist, “the rush is amazing, you gotta get into it, Emily!” are likely undiagnosed psychopaths. Enter Tom Cruise, one of the most famous runners in the movie biz. Scientology’s Messiah is to sprinting as Christopher Walken is to dancing. He does it a lot.

Now, actress Annabelle Wallis, who co-starred with Tom in 2017’s stinker reboot of The Mummy, is following in the footsteps of Thandie Newton and Rob Lowe and spilling some tea on Tommy’s quirks. Annabelle revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Tom doesn’t like anyone running in the same shot as him. Which is less gross than the magic zit, but still strange.

via THR:

I got to run on-screen with him, but he told me no at first. He said, ‘Nobody runs on-screen [with me],’ and I said, ‘But I’m a really good runner,’” Wallis recalls. “So, I would time my treadmill so that he’d walk in and see me run. And then he added all these running scenes. So, that was it. It was, like, better than an Oscar. I was so happy! I was so happy that I got to run on-screen with Tom Cruise.”

Um, Tom’s got it all wrong. If he’s the vain actor-type I think he is, he should welcome crappy runners being in the same shot as him. If they’re crap, he’ll look way more manly and fast. Or maybe it’s a height comparison thing? Or a Scientologist thing? Or, OR, Tommy’s actually very slow, and they use cinema magic to speed him up in post-production!

Hopefully, when Tom and Elon Musk finally shoot that movie in actual space, they won’t encounter any aliens. I can’t imagine an evil extraterrestrial agreeing to stay out of the shot while they chase and ultimately devour the entire cast and crew. Unless Tommy gets his Scientologist lawyers on it. Those guys are relentless!
