Open Post: Hosted By The Rock As Willy Wonka
Screenrant says that Tim Burton‘s 2005 remake of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory could have been a very different movie. While the role of Willy Wonka was disturbingly played by Johnny Depp in Bizarro World Anna Wintour drag, it seems another actor could have ended up wearing that bob wig. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was considered for the role of Willy Wonka. Can you smell what The Rock is cooking? It is sweet and delicious!
Gene Wilder was the original Willy Wonka, who set the tone for bizarre businessmen with questionable sanity, and while Johnny’s performance is uh…something, I’m sure that choosing The Rock would have been even more so. In an Instagram post, The Rock revealed that back in the early 2000s, he was “considered” by Tim Burton for the movie. The Rock said that he showed the original for the first time to his family and reminisced about the jobs he missed out on which he still “raises a glass” to because they all contributed to his career in the long-run. Which is realllllllly easy to say when you eventually became the highest-paid actor in the world, but hey.
I wish we got this version instead. Because honestly, there’s no job The Rock can’t do: Willy Wonka, two different cheerleaders at once, The President of The United States. And who doesn’t want to see The Rock bodyslam some huge round, bratty, blue child into smithereens? Willy “The Rock” Wonka would have checked those whiny brats!
