Jane Jetson’s Morning Mask!

On the last episode of Dlisted: The Podcast, Allison and I talked about how these times have brought in the era of Zoom. I said that I’m avoiding Zoom as if it was wearing CROCs, because I already look eight kinds of busted in a still shot, so I’m sure I would look eighteen kinds of busted on a webcam. But I’d totally Zoom if I had a Morning Mask like Jane Jetson’s from The Jetsons (No, I wouldn’t).

The Morning Mask made an appearance on several episodes of The Jetsons, and were only used by the women. I know it was the 60s, but that was even sexist then, because if anybody needed a Morning Mask it was Mr. Spacely! But the Morning Mask was for when Jane or her girlfriends got a video call before they did their hair or made up their faces. The mask was made up to look like the wearer’s day face. It looked awake, was slathered in make-up, and its hair was done. It was the original filter! In this clip, Jane puts on her Morning Mask when her friend Gloria calls:

And in this clip, Gloria sneezes her day face right off:

The Kardashians are screaming, “Amateurs!”, at both Jane and Gloria, because their Morning Masks never come off. But if I had a Morning Mask, I wouldn’t only wear it during Zoom calls. I’d also wear it before answering the door to sign for a package (to stop the delivery person from flitching) and during hook-ups because it’s really hard to breathe when your trick keeps putting a pillow over your face. Basically, I’d wear it all the time. And yes, I think I just came out as a masking fetishist.
