Slate says that Eminem was a surprise performer at the 92nd Academy Awards last night and he was there to perform Lose Yourself, which won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2003. Eminem’s performance got mixed reactions from the crowd. It all started when Lin-Manuel Miranda introduced a montage of songs from movies, and the montage segued into the beginning of Eminem’s Lose Yourself and then he showed up as a wave of confusion filled the theater.

Here’s Eminem’s performance:

Reactions from the crowd were mixed, but he did get a standing ovation at the end since they stand for everything. But there were looks of confusion from audience members like Billie Eilish and Adele Dazeem whose eyebrows kept asking what was going on:

And Martin Scorsese almost fell asleep:

Leonardo DiCaprio seemed to love it, though, as did Brie Larson:

After the performance, Eminem brought the comedy while interacting with Salma Hayek:

Honestly, what was the point of that performance?! I would have preferred they dressed up Jennifer Hudson in her Grizabella Cats costume and then flung her up to the ceiling while she yodeled on a chandelier. Give us a show AND a song from a relevant (listen, relevantly awful is still relevant) movie!
