Olivia Newton-John Is Selling Her Bad Sandy Pants From “Grease”

Apparently it’s the week of iconic clothing sales. And this latest sale is great news if you have ever dreamed of squeezing the last ounce of feeling from your legs in some vintage stretch fabric, all in the name of bringing out your inner Bad Sandy from Grease. Sadly, the opportunity for such an experience is limited to those with an extra $200,000 lying around.

The Guardian reports that Olivia Newton-John is working with Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles to sell many of her old things on November 2nd. ONJ is getting rid of decades worth of career memorabilia to help raise money for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia. And also because she just isn’t that attached to the stuff. She says:

“I’ve realized over the years, especially when you go through stuff, that stuff isn’t what’s important. It took quite a few months to weed through boxes and storage containers. But it was a fun venture. It just took a lot of time and sorting.”

This will be ONJ’s third similar sale, and it sounds like she was saving the best for last. Like those Bad Sandy pants. The one caveat is that whoever buys those pants better know their way around a needle and thread, otherwise they’re not wearing them. ONJ has said many times before that the pants she was given to wear during the end scene of Grease had a busted zipper and she had to be sewn into the pants every time she put them on. They’re also from the 1950s, which means any prospective buyers will be dropping several thousand dollars on some 70-year-old pants that might have ONJ’s blood in them from getting poked by a wardrobe needle.

It’s estimated the pants will go for at least $200,000. She’s also selling shoes she wore for dance numbers, her original script (which is estimated to go for $4,000), Bad Sandy’s leather jacket, the dress she wore to the film’s premiere in 1978, a custom-made Pink ladies jacket given to her by the crew, the outfit she wore to present at the 50th Academy Awards, as well as the outfits she wore during the Totally Hot World Tour in 1978. In total, over 500 items are going up for sale.

And if Grease isn’t your thing, but Xanadu is, well first let me congratulate you on having extremely good taste. But then let me tell you that lots of stuff ONJ wore in Xanadu is for sale as well. Like the over-the-knee white cowboy boots, and those baggy beaded brown pants she wears at the end of the film (the top, however, was loaned to her daughter Chloe Lattanzi, and never returned). Something tells me those pants aren’t also going to sell for $200,000. When it comes down to it, people are probably going to be more excited to buy pants with a busted zipper than the fabric version of two long sparkly poops.
