Ben Affleck Addressed His Recent Trip-Up With Sobriety

On Saturday night, Ben Affleck was seen stumbling around outside of a Halloween party in West Hollywood, which would be all well and good if he decided to dress up as Dolly Parton at the beginning of the song “9 to 5.” But it wasn’t the result of committing hard to an obscure costume choice; Ben didn’t appear to be sober. He recently confirmed that what we all saw was the result of a man working through the addiction recovery process.

TMZ says Ben was spotted arriving at Jennifer Garner’s home on Sunday, the day after his slip-up. One photographer brought up Ben’s rough-looking night, and mentioned that Ben was looking better. Ben answered:

“Well, you know – it happens. You slip, but I’m not going to let it derail me.”

A second photographer asked Ben if he was going to check himself into rehab, which Ben didn’t answer. People says that Ben was at Jen’s house to acknowledge his lapse in sobriety.

“You could tell that it wasn’t an easy thing for him, but Ben owned his mistake. He said it happens, that he slipped up but that it won’t happen again. It was a smart move because now the story is basically over. He looked tired.”

That’s got to be a good step in his recovery to admit when he fucked up. But does he look tired though? Here’s what Ben looked like when he showed up at Jen’s house.

I see a freshly-showered man in a clean outfit holding a large iced coffee from Dunkin (very on brand!). People’s source made it seem like Ben crawled to the front door in pajama pants and a bathrobe with his skeleton mask from the night before perched on the top of his head to shield his face from the daylight. Honestly, Ben looks great for someone just coming off a rough night. If that’s “tired,” then I would hate for People’s source to describe me the morning after any Halloween party between the years of 2008 and 2013. I still recall dragging myself to the drugstore (still in costume) for a bottle of Pepto the morning after one party, and being told by the pharmacist that they loved my zombie version of Peg Bundy, to which I grunted: “Zombie version? What do you mean zombie version?”
