Open Post: Hosted By These Sad School Nachos

The Takeout says Mississippi’s Byhalia High School got exposed on Twitter for their lackluster food choices with all the nutritional value of a stay at the Taco Bell Hotel.

This picture began making the rounds:

Yes that is a piece of processed cheese casually draped over 7-11 nacho chips with… meat? Is that meat? The Takeout called it a “soupçon of cat food” which sounds about correct to me. Maybe it could also be baby food of some kind? Who knows.

Memphis news station, FOX 13, got a statement from the school’s superintendent, Lela Hale, because I mean duh… you can’t feed this to children without knowing you’re gonna get shit on for it. And she says the parents need not be concerned because, according to the Department of Agriculture, this meal is full of nutrients. This may be a good time to let you know that the American government has tried multiple times over the years to get tomato paste classified as a vegetable. So… take that how you will.

And if you saw this picture and thought, “Yum!”, then you have no taste, but you can recreate this mess at home yourself using this handy recipe which the school board posted for purposes of transparency I’m guessing. Apart from the fact the recipe image looks fully different from the result which was served–they also seem pretty void of any nutritional value.

I mean, this is a mess. But hey, at least it’s probably still more healthy than the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich?
