Robert Downey Jr. Made $75 Million For “Avengers: Endgame”

Yesterday I reported on Forbes 100 Richest Bitches of 2019 list which included six actors from Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame. Even though Chris Hemsworth ranked higher on the list (#24, $76.4 M total earnings), Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. (more like Platinum Man) was the Avenger who came away with the biggest Marvel bag. RDJ ranked #31 on Forbes’ list and earned a reported $66 million in 2019. Of that sum, $55 million came from his Avenger’s backend deal which means he earned a total of $75 million for one movie. And here I thought Captain America was supposed to have the sweetest backend in the MCU!

According to Forbes, to date, Avengers: Endgame has earned 2.77 BILLION DOLLARS worldwide making it “the second-highest-grossing film ever both in the U.S. and overseas”. That is so many monies. And RDJ’s points on the profit ensure he gets a healthy slice of the Endgame pie.

These points pay off. Avengers: Endgame, for example, has made about $700 million in profit from its box office run so far. For Downey, who has around 8% in back-end points, that translates to about $55 million, for a grand total of $75 million for the one film.

All that just for *Endgame Spoilers Ahead* getting chapped lips and snapping his fingers? Shit, do you know how many new lips RDJ can buy with that kind of cash?

Other Avengers who scored big and made Forbes’ top 100 list were Bradley Cooper (#43) who “can command about 1% of the back end, which would translate to $7 million for Endgame”, Scarlett Johansson (the only lady Avenger on the list at #47), Chris Evans (#73), and Paul Rudd who came in at #83 and whose Avengers character Ant-Man Forbes rudely describes as “second tier”. At least he has useful powers and isn’t just a lippy garbage panda, Forbes!

I’m still reeling over RDJ earning $75 million dollars for one movie. And RDJ’s been in 10 of them shits (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame)! Now that his character Tony Stark is dead, suggesting his Avengers period is well and truly over, it will be interesting to see if he bothers to go back to acting in regular movies where he doesn’t have to pretend to be in love with Gwyneth Paltrow. Now that I think about it, I guess he really did earn that check.
