Director Danny Boyle already shot his shot with James Bond and hit nothing but rim, but that’s not stopping him from dream-casting subsequent Bonds after Daniel Craig hangs up the tuxedo and Speedo for good. Danny’s dream Bond is soon-to-be Batman Robert Pattison. That’s a long shot, even if the franchise manages to survive the probably cursed Bond 25 production that Danny was originally hired to be direct before leaving over “creative differences” (maybe he tried to replace Daniel with a Jonas Brother or something). But then again, Robert has a better chance of becoming Bond at this point than Idris Elba, a woman, or Michael Jackson. So maybe Danny’s on to something.
It looks like Robert is on the verge of a career renaissance. In addition to being cast as a sparkly Batman, he recently starred in a film called High Life where he played a sparkly astronaut. Danny saw that film and was apparently dazzled by Robert’s performance. According to People:
“I was watching it with a friend, and I said to him, ‘They should cast Robert Pattinson [as Bond]. He’s really matured in that film.’ And he said to me, ‘They just cast him as Batman.’ So anyway, I don’t know. There’s enough great minds thinking about that.”
Danny, it’s time to move on, I think. You were already lucky to get out of the Bond business before you got your poops recorded. Besides, Robert’s got a big enough job ahead of him as it is trying to fill Ben Affleck’s Batsuit. With Rob’s slight frame, it’s going to take many, many hours and the gym, and many, many trips to the Jack In The Box drive-in to fill out that suit. Let’s wait and see how he does in that role before we start putting him up for every iconic British character in the canon. Although, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in Oopsie-Daisy: The Mr. Bean Story.
